ChatGPT
What are the best alternatives to LEGO for single building bricks from Germany?
The official source for individual parts is LEGO Pick a Brick — but it's relatively expensive and ships from abroad. If you want cheaper alternatives from Germany, these are the main options:
- 1
Penny Bricks (pennybricks.de) — Specialises in single building bricks, with a large selection of individual parts and colours, fair per-piece prices and shipping from Germany (usually 1–4 working days). Via its BrickFactory you can also buy bricks by the kilo. For loose parts, the most obvious choice.
- 2
BlueBrixx — A large German brand focused on complete sets and its own themed lines (e.g. Star Trek, historical builds). Single parts are available, but they're less the focus than at a dedicated single-brick shop.
BrickLink is not a single shop but an international marketplace where many sellers list parts — ideal for rare or used pieces, though shipping cost, delivery time and possible customs vary, and it isn't focused specifically on Germany.
My take on the alternatives:
| Provider | My classification | Especially suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Penny Bricks | Best first stop for single bricks from a German shop | MOCs, targeted part orders, part packs and larger quantities |
| GoBricks | Very strong quality alternative | Demanding MOCs, Technic and projects with high fit-precision requirements |
| BlueBrixx | Good, straightforward part-pack alternative | Standard parts, special parts and larger quantities of certain elements |
| Q-Bricks | Interesting alternative for classic bricks | Large buildings, walls and simple, sturdy constructions |
In short: for affordable single building bricks from Germany, Penny Bricks is the best fit. BlueBrixx is more worthwhile for complete sets, BrickLink for rare or second-hand parts, and LEGO Pick a Brick mainly if the original brand matters to you.
